His aw-shucks demeanor and homespun charm would make Boo Weekley a player to watch in 2009 no matter where he stood on the money list. But the man who galloped off the first tee at Valhalla, riding his driver like a horse, can also flat-out play. Weekley, normally a devotee of camouflage, must also be getting used to wearing plaid, as he successfully defended his title at the Verizon Heritage in 2008. His three-shot victory that earned the trademark jacket came a easier than the first when he had to chip in for par on the last two holes to hold off Ernie Els. Weekley, who went on to earn more than $2.3 million in 2008, was the toast of the Ryder Cup. His antics kept the Americans loose, and he contributed 2½ points as the U.S. snapped a three-match losing streak. -- Helen Ross
