MORE TOP 100 PLAYERS TO WATCH: BACK to Player No. 23 | FORWARD to Player No. 21 | Archive

Ben Curtis has got to feel pretty good about 2009 after completing a career year with $2.6 million that included a pair of runner-up finishes. He nearly tripled his earnings from 2007 and bettered 2006 when Curtis won two times on TOUR. There was no major championship, to be sure, but he came close in a tie for second at the PGA Championship. That marked his third top-10 in a major since the Ohioan burst onto the scene with a victory at the Open Championship in his first appearance at a major. The Kent State grad started 2008 slowly with that solo second at the Wachovia Championship in May where he closed with a 65 -- marking his first top-10. For the year, Curtis posted five top-10s, eight top-25s and he made the cut in all but four starts. -- Helen Ross

Ben is easy to overlook -- too quiet to stand out but so good he will tackle our fancy again -- sooner or later.
