It's hard to imagine 2009 could be much better for J.B. Holmes than 2008 was. He won his second PGA TOUR event and played on the winning Ryder Cup team in his home state of Kentucky. Holmes will enter the season with a ton of confidence after a career year that included $2.1 million in earnings and a second victory at the FBR Open in three years. Holmes hung tough, too, despite squandering a four-stroke lead -- making birdie on the 18th hole twice on Sunday, once to force the playoff with Phil Mickelson, then again to win. The big-hitting Holmes also tied for 10th at THE PLAYERS. U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Paul Azinger was impressed enough to make Holmes a wild-card pick, and the 26-year-old Kentuckian responded by earning 2½ points for the victorious U.S. team. -- Helen Ross

Remember the Ryder Cup. It would have been forgivable to fall flat. What happened was unimaginable. J.B. for governor of Kentucky!
